A Support Program for Young Talents
“The purpose of the foundation is to support apprenticeships, especially to support the supra-regional (further) education of ambitioned young talents in the metal trade…”
For this purpose, the Kaps-Foundation initiated the Junior-support-program in cooperation with the Verein Deutscher Metallhändler e.V. (Association of German Metal Merchants). The program runs for three years and is aimed at all young people under 35, who wish to work – or already work – in the metal industry.
Four obligatory modules, to which four optional modules of three subject areas are added, form the basis of the support program. An internship with a company of the metal industry completes the program. When completed successfully, the certificate “Graduate of the Junior-support-program / Kaps-Foundation” is awarded. Admission to the program is possible at any time, as the obligatory trainings are not carried out chronologically.
The following events are part of the obligatory training:
- Junior seminar Goslar
The basic training in the three most important subjects of the metal trade. This course has been carried out in the BGA-education centre in Goslar by top lecturers from within the trade since 1966.
Duration: one week - Business-basics of the metal trade
Topics of this training are calculation, economics, business and risk management as well as controlling.
Duration: two to three days - Basic training in environmental laws
Trade-specific basic training on environmental topics. The course was originally developed for people working in waste management facilities.
Duration: four days - General conditions of the metal trade (module P3)
The focus of this training is on trade, environmental and industrial law as well as on a few country-specific regulations.
Duration: two days / every two years
Optional Modules
In addition to the obligatory seminars, at least four optional courses out of three subject areas are to be attended.
- Courses through a guided tour
In combination with a tour of a company, the life cycle of a metal (production, usage, recycling) is at the center of the accompanying lectures. - Product-seminars on NE- semi-finished metal products
Semi-finished aluminium or copper products (production and usage such as format and alloying). - VDM-Junior-meetings (module W)
One metal each as the focus of guided tours of a company and an evening event.
The Junior-support-program is completed with a three- to five-day internship in a company within the NE-metal industry or the NE-metal trade.
